Meta Muse is Meta’s personal AI agent: instead of only answering questions, it sends emails, fills in forms, books travel and even checks out purchases on your behalf. This guide explains how to use Meta Muse step by step, what it can and cannot do, how the free and paid plans work, what privacy questions have been raised, and whether you can use it in the UK or the rest of Europe yet.

This guide was checked on 7 October 2026 against Meta’s own announcements and recent reporting from TechCrunch, TIME, Gizmodo and others. We have not tested Muse ourselves, because it is not yet available in Europe, so features are described as Meta and independent reporters present them.

What Is Meta Muse?

Meta announced Muse on 8 September 2026, describing it as a personal AI agent “built for everyone”. It runs on Muse Spark, the model family from Meta Superintelligence Labs, and TechCrunch reports that the launch version uses Muse Spark 1.3. You talk to Muse like you would message a friend, either in the Muse app or directly in WhatsApp, and it carries out multi-step tasks across the websites and apps you connect.

Three design choices set Muse apart from a typical chatbot:

  • It keeps working in the background. Meta says Muse carries on with a task after you close the app.
  • It has its own computer. Each user gets a “Muse Secure VM”, an isolated cloud machine with its own browser, so Muse can use websites that have no API.
  • It remembers you. Muse builds a long-term memory of your preferences and the people in your life. That makes it more useful, but it is also the source of most privacy concerns (see below).

If you are new to the idea of software that acts rather than just answers, our explainer on how AI agents are changing business gives useful background.

Is Meta Muse Available in the UK and Europe?

Not yet. Muse launched in the United States on 8 September 2026 on iOS, Android and the web at muse.ai. On 18 September Meta added Canada, initially on iOS and the web, according to iPhone in Canada. Meta’s small-business version, announced on 29 September, is also limited to the US and Canada.

Searches such as “Meta Muse UK” and “Meta Muse UK release date” are common, but Meta has not announced a date for the UK, the EU or any other region. Some websites promote VPNs as a workaround. We do not recommend that: Muse requires a payment card at sign-up, it handles sensitive account access, and using it from an unsupported country may breach the terms you agree to. European readers should also expect any EU launch to take account of GDPR and the EU AI Act, which can delay products from US tech companies.

What Can Meta Muse Do?

According to Meta’s announcement and TechCrunch’s launch coverage, examples include:

  • Email and messages: drafting and sending emails, and sending invitations for an event.
  • Travel and bookings: booking trips and coordinating dinners and events.
  • Forms and admin: filling in online forms and chasing bills or subscriptions, including negotiating a lower bill.
  • Shopping: researching products and completing checkout with Link by Stripe. Meta says Muse is the first AI agent covered by Link’s purchase protections, such as coverage for damaged or lost items and price drops on eligible purchases.
  • Planning: turning saved Instagram recipes into a grocery list, planning a dinner party menu or adjusting a training plan.
  • Calendar, health apps and smart home: TechCrunch lists calendar management, fitness app integration and smart-home control among Muse’s connectors.

Meta says Muse checks with you before sensitive actions, such as sending an email or making a purchase. It has also said Shop Pay and 1Password support are coming soon.

Muse for Small Business

On 29 September Meta launched Muse for Small Business. It connects to more than 20 business tools, including Shopify, Slack, Canva, Asana, QuickBooks, Figma and Notion, plus Facebook Pages, Instagram professional accounts and Meta ad accounts. It can draft replies, analyse sales and ad performance, and watch expenses, and Meta says it asks for approval before publishing, sending or spending.

How to Use Meta Muse: Step by Step

These steps apply in the countries where Muse is available (currently the US and Canada).

Step 1: Get the app or open the website

Download Muse from the App Store or Google Play, or go to muse.ai on the web. In Canada, Android support was not available at launch. You can also chat with Muse in WhatsApp once your account is set up.

Step 2: Create your account and add a payment card

TechCrunch reports that Muse requires a payment card during setup, even if you only plan to use the free tier. Reports describe this as a fraud and age check; you are not charged unless you upgrade or buy something.

Step 3: Personalise your agent

Muse lets you choose a name, an avatar and how it communicates. Spend a minute here: a clear description of your tone and preferences makes later tasks smoother.

Step 4: Connect only the apps you need

Meta says you choose which apps Muse connects to and exactly how much access it gets, and that you can change or remove access at any time. Start small, for example your calendar and email only, and add shopping or payment connections later once you trust the results.

Step 5: Give it a clear task

Describe the outcome you want, the limits and when you want it done. Compare:

  • Vague: “Sort out my gym membership.”
  • Clear: “Find out whether I can pause my gym membership for two months, tell me the cost, and draft the request email for me to approve.”

Step 6: Approve sensitive actions

When Muse is ready to send an email or complete a purchase, it asks first. Read the draft or the basket carefully before you approve. This is your main safety check.

Step 7: Review and tidy its memory

Muse remembers details you mention, even once. If it has learned something you would rather it did not keep, tell it to “forget” that detail. TIME reports that you can also ask Muse to export its files, but warns that asking it to forget does not delete your original messages.

Meta Muse Pricing: Is Meta Muse Free?

Meta says Muse is “free for most of what people need”, with paid plans for heavier use. TechCrunch reported three tiers at launch:

Plan Price (US) What changes
Free $0 Limited monthly usage, shown on a usage meter
Power $20/month More capacity for delegating tasks
Maximum $100/month The highest usage allowance

According to Tech Insider’s breakdown, the paid tiers buy more usage rather than extra features. Meta has not published European prices, because Muse is not available in Europe. For comparison, our guide to Perplexity vs ChatGPT covers two assistants that are already available across Europe.

Meta Muse Privacy and Security: What to Know

What Meta promises

  • Muse does not share your conversations or the data in your VM with Meta’s ad systems.
  • You can opt out of your interactions being used to train Meta’s AI models.
  • Muse has no visibility into your passwords or payment methods.
  • A separate “Sentinel” agent must approve anything Muse sends to the internet.
  • A “Muse Confidential VM”, encrypted with a key only you hold, is planned for later in 2026.

What critics have found

  • Relationship profiles: TIME (6 October) and Gizmodo report that Muse builds detailed profiles of people in your life, including people who never signed up, tracking relationship history, recurring topics and even “tensions and alliances”. Meta says this data stays in your own secure VM.
  • Shared learnings: TIME reports that agents share anonymised learnings across the system to improve Muse, with names and identifying details removed.
  • Amazon block: in September Amazon blocked Muse from shopping on its site, saying the agent did not identify itself as automated and raising concerns about how it handled customer credentials, Campaign reported.
  • Security fixes: Gizmodo reports that Meta patched a zero-day flaw in the Mac app that could have let malware hijack the agent and its permissions.

Our view: Muse’s security architecture is more thought-through than many agents, but its memory goes much further than most users expect. Before connecting email, payments or family calendars, decide whether you are comfortable with an agent building a long-term picture of your relationships. Similar concerns affect other AI companies too; see our report on OpenAI’s ad-tracking cookie. For a technical look at how agents can be fenced in, read our NVIDIA OpenShell guide.

Meta Muse Alternatives for European Users

While you wait for a European launch, these options are worth considering:

  • Microsoft Copilot: Microsoft has been adding agent-style features to Copilot; see our coverage of the new Copilot Home, Code and Autopilot.
  • ChatGPT and Claude: both offer agent and task features in many European countries. Check each provider’s regional availability before subscribing.
  • Mistral Vibe: a European assistant from a French company, with connectors and approval prompts before sensitive actions.

Does Meta Muse work in WhatsApp?

Yes. Meta says you can talk to Muse in the Muse app or directly in WhatsApp.

Is Meta Muse safe?

Meta uses an isolated virtual machine per user and a separate approval agent, and says your data is not used for ads. However, reporters have raised concerns about how much Muse remembers about you and others, and Meta has already patched at least one security flaw. Connect only the services you need.

What model powers Meta Muse?

Muse runs on Meta’s Muse Spark models; TechCrunch reports the launch version used Muse Spark 1.3.

Conclusion

Meta Muse is one of the most ambitious consumer AI agents so far: it can send messages, book, fill in forms and shop, all from a chat in its app or WhatsApp. If you are in the US or Canada, start on the free tier, connect only the services you need, and read every approval request carefully. If you are in the UK or Europe, Muse is not available yet, and the privacy questions now being raised may shape how and when it arrives. In the meantime, European users have capable alternatives, and this guide will be most useful the day Meta announces a wider rollout.
