Looking up Perplexity pricing can be confusing. The website lists annual prices, the help centre lists monthly prices, and a new credit system for Perplexity Computer sits on top of both. This guide sets out what each plan costs in 2026: Free, Pro, Max, Education Pro and the two Enterprise tiers. It also covers how credits work, what the API costs and what UK and European users actually pay, so you can choose the cheapest plan that does the job.

All prices below were checked on 11 October 2026 against Perplexity’s own pricing page, help centre and API documentation. Perplexity lists its prices in US dollars and changes plans fairly often, so confirm the final price at checkout before you subscribe.

Perplexity Pricing at a Glance

Plan Monthly price Annual price Best for
Free $0 $0 Everyday searches with citations
Education Pro $10 Not listed Verified students and educators
Pro $20 $200 (about $17 a month) Regular users who want stronger models and Deep Research
Max $200 $2,000 (about $167 a month) Power users who rely on Perplexity Computer and agents
Enterprise Pro $40 per seat $400 per seat Teams that need admin controls and data protection
Enterprise Max $325 per seat $3,250 per seat Heavy business users

Annual billing saves roughly 17% on Pro and Max. Perplexity’s Max help page says the annual Max plan can only be bought on the web, not in the mobile apps.

Perplexity Free: What You Get for £0

The free plan is genuinely useful for quick research. According to Perplexity’s plan guide, it includes near-unlimited basic searches with cited sources, saved search history, three Pro Searches a day and one Research (Deep Research) query a month, plus limited file uploads.

The main restrictions are model choice and creation tools. Free users cannot pick advanced models, generate images or video, or create files and apps. If you mainly want fast answers with links you can check, the free plan may be all you need.

Perplexity Pro: $20 a Month

Pro is the plan most people upgrade to. It costs $20 a month, or $200 a year, which works out at about $17 a month. Perplexity lists these features:

  • Extended Pro Search and Deep Research.
  • Access to advanced models from several AI companies, with the option to choose the model yourself.
  • Image and video generation.
  • Monthly limits for creating files and apps.
  • Up to 50 file uploads per project.
  • Weekly Perplexity Computer usage, plus a one-off bonus of 4,000 credits.
  • Priority support.

Two details are worth knowing. First, Pro has no monthly credit allowance; its bonus credits expire 30 days after they are added. Second, the weekly Computer allowance resets each week and does not roll over. According to the credits help page, it runs tasks only on the Light effort setting unless you have credits to cover more.

Is Perplexity Pro worth it?

Pro is worth paying for if you use Perplexity several times a week for work or study, hit the free plan’s three Pro Searches a day, or want Deep Research more than once a month. If you mostly ask simple questions, the free plan covers you, and a general assistant such as ChatGPT or Gemini may suit you better for writing and brainstorming. Our Perplexity vs ChatGPT comparison explains where each one is stronger.

Perplexity Max: $200 a Month

Max is aimed at people who use Perplexity as a working tool every day. It costs $200 a month or $2,000 a year. According to the Max help page, it includes everything in Pro plus:

  • The highest level of access to advanced AI models on the web.
  • Max Assistant in the Comet browser, with the highest weekly limit for the browser agent.
  • Extended limits for creating files and apps.
  • 10,000 credits every month, plus a one-off bonus of 35,000 credits.
  • Early access to new products, including Brain in Perplexity Computer, which is free during its research preview.
  • Priority support.

Max is hard to justify for ordinary searching. Its value comes from running long Computer tasks and agents. If you do not use those, Pro gives you most of the research features for a tenth of the price.

How Perplexity Credits Work

Credits pay for agent-style work in Perplexity Computer and for Comet Assistant when it runs in Work mode. Normal Ask searches and Comet in Search mode do not use credits. Perplexity’s help centre values them at 100 credits per US dollar, though it notes that this can vary by promotion, region or plan.

Plan Monthly credits One-off bonus credits
Pro None (weekly Computer usage instead) 4,000
Max 10,000 35,000
Enterprise Pro 500 8,000
Enterprise Max 15,000 40,000

Credits are used in this order: bonus credits first, then monthly credits, then any you have bought. Monthly credits refresh on your billing date and do not roll over. Purchased credits last until used but expire after a year of inactivity. Perplexity gives example costs for a single task that range from a few hundred credits for light work to several thousand for very large jobs, but it stresses that these are examples, not guarantees.

Tip: auto-refill is off by default. If you switch it on, set a monthly cap. Max accounts also have a spending cap that starts at $200 a month and can be raised to $5,000; when you reach it, active tasks pause rather than fail.

Education Pro and Discounts

Students and educators can get Education Pro for $10 a month after verifying their status with SheerID. It includes everything in Pro plus Learn Mode and unlimited Pro Searches. For many university students in the UK and Europe, this is the cheapest way to get Pro features. Our list of AI tools for research students shows how Perplexity fits alongside other study tools.

Perplexity has also run partner promotions with phone networks, banks and payment apps, which often give a year of Pro free. These deals change frequently and many have ended. For example, Bouygues Telecom’s French offer and PayPal’s offer have both closed. Check your provider’s app or website for a current offer rather than relying on older articles.

Perplexity Enterprise Pricing

Businesses have two tiers:

  • Enterprise Pro costs $40 per seat a month or $400 per seat a year. Eligible education and non-profit organisations pay $30 or $300. It adds a trust centre, seat management, shared Projects, admin billing and a promise that your data is never used for training. Limits include 400 Pro Searches a week and 50 Research queries a month.
  • Enterprise Max costs $325 per seat a month or $3,250 per seat a year. It raises limits to 4,000 Pro Searches a week, 500 Research queries a month and 500 file or app creations a month, and adds SCIM provisioning, audit logs and configurable data retention.

For UK and EU organisations, the data-protection terms matter as much as the price. Check the trust centre and your data processing agreement before staff upload client documents.

Perplexity API Pricing

The API is billed separately from any subscription, on a pay-as-you-go basis with prepaid credits. Perplexity’s documentation lists these prices for its Sonar models:

Model Input (per 1M tokens) Output (per 1M tokens) Request fee (per 1,000 requests)
Sonar $1 $1 $5 / $8 / $12
Sonar Pro $3 $15 $6 / $10 / $14
Sonar Reasoning Pro $2 $8 $6 / $10 / $14
Sonar Deep Research $2 $8 See note below

The three request-fee figures are for low, medium and high search context size. Sonar Deep Research also charges for citation and reasoning tokens ($2 and $3 per million) and $5 per 1,000 search queries. The standalone Search API costs $5 per 1,000 requests, or $1 per 1,000 in fast mode. The Agent API charges per tool call plus the token price of whichever model you choose.

If you are building search or retrieval features, our guide to the best embedding models covers Perplexity’s open embedding models, which you can run without the API.

What Perplexity Costs in the UK and Europe

Perplexity does not publish an official pound or euro price list. Its plans are listed in US dollars, so what you pay depends on how you subscribe:

  • On the website, the final amount depends on the currency offered at checkout and on your bank’s exchange rate, if you are charged in dollars.
  • Through the App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google sets the local price, which may differ from the web price.
  • VAT may be added depending on your country.

A useful consumer-rights point: Perplexity’s Max help page says customers in the EU, UK and Turkey can get a refund within 14 days of purchase. Elsewhere, monthly plans have a 24-hour refund window and annual plans 48 hours.

How Perplexity Compares on Price

Service Main paid plan Top consumer plan
Perplexity Pro, $20 a month Max, $200 a month
ChatGPT Plus, $20 a month Pro
Claude Pro, $20 a month Max, from $100 a month
Gemini (UK) Google AI Pro, £18.99 a month Google AI Ultra, from £79.99 a month

The entry price is now almost identical across the major assistants, so the decision comes down to what you use most. Perplexity is built around cited web research; the others are broader assistants. For the full details, see our guides to ChatGPT pricing, Claude pricing and Gemini pricing. One more difference: ChatGPT’s Free and Go plans now show ads in the UK and much of Europe, as explained in our ChatGPT ads guide.

Is Comet Free?

Yes. Perplexity made its Comet browser free for everyone in October 2025. What changes with your plan is how much you can use the built-in assistant: Search mode does not use credits, while Work mode runs Perplexity Computer and draws on your weekly allowance or credits. Max subscribers get the highest browser-agent limit.

Which Perplexity Plan Should You Choose?

  • Choose Free if you want quick, cited answers a few times a day.
  • Choose Education Pro if you are a student or educator, because it gives you Pro features for half the price.
  • Choose Pro if you research regularly for work, want Deep Research and model choice, or want to try Perplexity Computer.
  • Choose Max only if you run Computer tasks and agents every day and would otherwise pay for credits.
  • Choose Enterprise Pro if your team needs admin controls and a clear commitment that data will not be used for training.

How to Upgrade, Downgrade or Cancel

On the web, go to Settings > Account > Subscription. Perplexity’s help centre warns about one common mistake: if you subscribed to Pro on the web, upgrade to Max on the web too. Upgrading in the mobile app creates a second, separate Max subscription alongside your existing Pro plan. Cancellations and downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period.

Conclusion

Perplexity pricing is simple once you separate the three layers: the subscription (Free, Pro at $20, Max at $200), the credits that pay for Computer tasks, and the separate pay-as-you-go API. Most people should start free, move to Pro or Education Pro when they hit the limits, and consider Max only if agents are central to their work. Because prices are in dollars and partner deals come and go, check the final amount at checkout before you commit.
