What Free does not include: the GPT-6 models, scheduled tasks, creating your own GPTs, voice with video, or the faster response times paid users get. The context window is also smaller, at around 27K tokens for instant answers, which OpenAI estimates at roughly 12 pages of text you can paste in at once.

ChatGPT Go Pricing: The Budget Paid Plan

OpenAI launched ChatGPT Go worldwide on 16 January 2026. In the US it costs $8 per month, and OpenAI states that Go pricing is localised in some markets, so the figure you see in the UK or the EU may not be a straight currency conversion.

What Go adds over Free

• More messages with tools, more uploads and more image creation
• More voice chats, plus voice with video
• Longer memory and a larger context window (about 54K tokens for instant chats)
• Scheduled tasks and the ability to create and share custom GPTs

Go still uses the same default model as Free rather than the GPT-6 family, keeps deep research and Codex limited, and may include ads. It suits students and casual users who keep running into Free-plan limits on uploads or images but do not need advanced reasoning.

ChatGPT Plus Pricing: $20 a Month

ChatGPT Plus costs $20 per month, billed monthly, according to OpenAI’s help article on Plus. There is no annual discount: OpenAI’s help centre confirms it does not offer annual billing or prepayment for Go, Plus or Pro.

ChatGPT Pro Pricing: $100 and $200 Tiers

ChatGPT Pro now comes in two tiers. According to OpenAI’s Pro tiers help article, both include the same core features. The difference is how much you can use them:

• Pro $100 per month: 5x the usage of Plus
• Pro $200 per month: 20x the usage of Plus

Both tiers add pro reasoning powered by GPT-6 Astra, the maximum Codex allowance, unlimited and faster image creation, maximum deep research, and larger context windows (128K tokens for instant chats and 400K for reasoning, compared with 54K and 256K on Plus).

Important: Pro $200 sign-ups are paused

OpenAI says that since 10 September 2026 it has temporarily paused new sign-ups and upgrades to the $200 tier. Existing $200 subscribers keep their plan and renew as normal, and the $100 tier is still open to everyone. Some former subscribers qualify for a one-time return during the pause. If you need Pro today, the $100 tier is the only option for new customers.

Who should pay for Pro?

Pro is a capacity upgrade rather than a different product. It is worth considering if Plus limits interrupt paid work several times a week, if you run long Codex coding sessions, or if you rely on deep research for client reports. If you only hit the Plus limit occasionally, switching models or waiting for the reset is far cheaper than paying five times as much.

ChatGPT Business Pricing: Standard and Premium Seats

ChatGPT Business (formerly Team) is the self-serve plan for companies. OpenAI’s Business FAQ lists two seat types:

A workspace needs at least two paid seats, and you can mix Standard and Premium seats freely. OpenAI notes that these USD prices may vary by country and currency.

Why a team might choose Business over Plus

• No training on your data: OpenAI states that Business data is never used to train its models.
• Admin and security: SAML SSO, admin controls for users, usage and billing, shared company context and support for GDPR compliance.
• One bill: add or remove seats as staff change, and buy optional credits for power users.

A simple example: a five-person agency on Standard seats pays $125 a month on monthly billing, or $100 a month equivalent ($1,200 a year) on annual billing, before VAT. Giving one heavy user a Premium seat on annual billing would raise that to $180 a month equivalent.

Enterprise, Edu and nonprofits

Enterprise is priced through OpenAI’s sales team and adds SCIM, role-based access controls and data residency options, with regions on OpenAI’s list including the EU and the UK. Universities can buy ChatGPT Edu, and OpenAI says eligible nonprofits can get up to 75% off Business or Enterprise.

ChatGPT Pricing in the UK and Europe

This is where most readers get confused, because OpenAI’s pricing pages show US dollars while your card is charged in pounds or euros. Here is what OpenAI’s multi-currency billing article confirms:

• Local currency on the web: subscriptions bought on chatgpt.com can be billed in GBP in the UK and EUR across the EEA, as well as SEK (Sweden), PLN (Poland), CHF (Switzerland) and other local currencies.
• App store purchases: if you subscribe in the iOS or Android app, Apple or Google manages the subscription and charges you in local currency at their price, which can differ from the web price.
• Payment options: cards work everywhere, and UK and EEA users can also pay by bank debit through Link where supported.
• Extra verification: EEA customers may be asked for Strong Customer Authentication at purchase or renewal.
• Currency is fixed once you subscribe: to switch currency you must cancel and re-subscribe after the current period ends.

OpenAI does not publish an official table of pound or euro prices for each country, and VAT varies across Europe (for example, 20% in the UK, 19% in Germany and 21% in the Netherlands). A common mistake is assuming a Plus or Business subscription includes API access. It does not. • On the web: go to Settings → My Plan to upgrade, downgrade or cancel.
• Upgrades take effect immediately and restart your billing cycle.
• Downgrades take effect at your next renewal, so you keep your current plan until then.
• Cancelling keeps your access until the end of the paid period, and the plan simply does not renew.
• App store subscriptions must be managed through Apple or Google, not in ChatGPT’s settings.
